and asks him Just one Question…

What inspired you to blog about food?”

My inspiration for writing about food came from a now defunct blog called Shiokadelious! The writer of that blog, Renee, brought the smells and flavors of Singapore to me here in Hawaii some 6,000 miles away. Her blog’s narrative, and the accompanying photos, drew me in and eventually led me to plan my own vacation there in 2005.

I had always thought that the food here in Hawaii was great; simple cuisine that reflected the islands’ relaxed attitudes. Hawaii’s culinary landscape has much to offer: tiny hole-in-the-wall eateries, local plate lunch spots, a few food trucks and a sprinkling of fine dining establishments. I felt that by sharing my discoveries, I could inspire others to make their way to my island home as Renee had inspired me.

My name is Reid and I live in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. I am a business analyst by trade that loves to eat, cook and travel. Fresh food and flavors are what it’s all about, but I have been known to have a sweet spot for desserts! Hole-in-the-wall, roadside shack or snack cart, or picnic table, I will eat anything and everything at least once. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world and to have eaten in some of the world’s best restaurants including The Fat Duck (UK), Pierre Gagnaire (Paris), Alinea (Chicago), Manresa (Los Gatos), Tetsuya (Sydney) and most recently RyuGin and Les Creations de Narisawa in Tokyo.
